The Composer                                                                           Home Apart from his wide experience in conducting ballet orchestras, since the mid-sixties Dudley Simpson has composed and conducted numerous scores for feature and documentary film, and television, including 310 episodes of Dr Who for BBC1. Many of his melodies are familiar to millions. He has composed two ballets: A Winter Play for Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet and Ballet/Class for the Royal Ballet School. He transcribed Liszt's B minor Sonata for BBC Film and the Nureyev Festival, and Gould's Here We Come for the Canadian National Ballet. In 1974 A Voyage of Discovery, a scenario in words and music was commissioned by the Australian Musical Association and performed at Festival Hall in London with the Philharmusica of London Orchestra. In 1987 he conducted his own composition of Ballet/Class at the Royal Opera House with the Covent Garden Orchestra. Since returning to Australia in 1987, Dudley Simpson has concentrated on composition and has written two works, The Pastoral Symphony and Psalm XXIII for horn and trebles.
